…2 suspects on the run

MASVINGO- As the nation joins the rest of the world in commemoration of the 16 Days Against Gender Based Violence which begins every 25th of Nomber evry year, the country continues to witness alarming cases of abuse of women and the girl child.

From Thsolotsho to Bindura, from Bikita to Victoria Falls, eight year olds, grade 7 pupils and under age girls are being impregnated, beaten up by ‘husbands’ or killed for sex.

 On November 17 a 24 year old woman from Bikita in Makaya Village under Chief Mabika was allegedly raped and beaten to death by two male adults who fled the scene after the gruesome abuse and are still at large with Police appealing for information leading to their arrest.

Caroline Gava died on November 18 at her house after having paid sex with two unknown men who demanded their money back  after  having sexual intercourse  with her.

Masvingo  Province ZRP spokesperson  Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed  the  incident  and urged people the respect the sanctity of life.

“The two accused men are on the wanted list and we appeal for anyone one who can lead to their arrest to approach  nearest Police station. However, we continue  to  emphasize  that people should  value life in all their dealings because it is sacred,” said Dhewa.

 Dhewa told The Midweek Watch that on November  17 this year, at around 8pm Gava left home in the company of her boyfriend to Chiremwaremwa Business Centre.

At 1230am the following day she decided to return home alone and met two men, who proposed love to her and offered her USD$20 if she agreed to  sleep with both of them.

She agreed and consented to have paid sex with them.

They had sex until Gava complained bitterly that she was tired which resulted in both men forcing  themselves on her.

After they satsfied they allegedly started  beating her and forcibly  took back their money.

Around the 1am she managed to reach home where she told her cousin of what had gone through and at around 6am she went into her kitchem where she collapsed and died.

A police report was made  at Mashoko police base and the body was ferried to Mashoko Hospital .
