MASVINGO-Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Kazembe Kazembe has encouraged all Government ministries and individuals to embrace and implement integrated Information and Communications Technology (ICT) strategy as the world is becoming one global zone through technology.

Speaking during the launch of  2023 Annual Ministry Strategic Performance Plan (MSSP) workshop held at Clevers Lakeview Resort in Masvingo on November 8, Kazembe said focus should be given to the integrated ICT strategy which is intended to automate work processes and bring efficiency and effectiveness.

The five year ICT Strategic Plan is expected to drive Zimbabwean economy going forward as it dovetail with the National Development Strategy (NDS1) and the smart Zimbabwe 2030 master plan.

“On the implementation of the 2021-2023 Strategic Plan and the MSSP for 2022, it is my hope that greater attention and focus will be given to the Ministry’s Cabinet approved Integrated ICT Strategy which is designed to not just automate work processes but to bring efficiency and effectiveness to our system.

“The whole world is espousal to use of technology and as such as a country we should hasten our plans so that we do not lag behind but move along with this train. I am happy to note that the strategy which prioritised such highly impactful programs such as the Online Border Management System under Immigration, Electronic Data Record Management System under the National Archives and Smart Policing under ZRP among others has made significant progress in terms of implementation.

The Minster also touched on the Nikuv system which is down and has negatively affected the issuance of birth and death records for citizens for the better part of the year where promised that the problem will soon be a thing of the past.

“I also want to take this moment to assure members of the public that we are working tirelessly so that we restore birth and death certificate issuing which has been disturbed due to technological setbacks. I urge all Heads of Departments and Agencies in your capacity as the Ministry’s technocrats to use time and resources provided productively,” said Kazembe.

He also said the workshop will expose all heads of departments and IRBM focal persons who had attended the workshop to basic functions of the Executive Electronic Dashboard (EED)  which is a critical function to enable the President to view progress in the implementation of the various Government projects on the click of a button.

The main objectives of the workshop include crafting the ministry’s annual plan that incorporate coming targets,  valuation on progress made in 2022 and review of past year performance and what should be adjusted so as to deliver satisfactory service on the general populace.
