GWERU – A 38-year-old man was on Tuesday killed in cold blood as he was struck with a log and a sharp object several times all over the body by four men after a misunderstanding over a girlfriend at Siyatotoba Highway Bar, Raylands, Gweru.

The deceased is Absolom Mazambani.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

“It is alleged that Absolom Mazambani of Woodlands was drinking beer at Siyatotoba Bar in the company of Edson Mhondoro a male adult aged 43 of Woodlands and Sithandazile Moyo of Raylands, Gweru who is Mhondoro’s girlfriend.

“They were approached by four male suspects who are Merious Lundu aged 41 years, Stephen Chinyama aged 22 years, Nigel Musoni aged 24 years, all of woodlands and another male suspect who is unknown and confronted them on why they were staying with Sithandazile Moyo who they claimed to be Merious Lundu’s girlfriend.

“The four suspects then jointly assaulted Absolom Mazambani with a wooden stick and stabbed him with an Okapi knife on the right arm. The four fled the scene leaving the victim at scene,” said Mahoko.

Mazambani then walked a few metres towards his place of residence and fell down where he was found lying unconscious and bleeding. He was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The three known suspects were arrested. The fourth suspect is still at large.

Mahoko urged members of the public to always prioritize settling disputes through dialogue. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspect to contact any nearest Police  Station.
