MASVINGO – Police in Masvingo has arrested four notorious robbers who were allegedly in the habit of stealing goods from vehicles involved in accidents along the Masvingo Beitbridge Highway in the past four years.

Masvingo Province Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the arrest which happened at Lundi Business Centre by ZRP Ngundu recently after a tip off from members of the public.

Dhewa told The Midweek watch that Ngundu Police launched an operation code named ‘No to theft of Accident Victims Property’ after receiving several reports of theft of property from accident victims.

After they received a tip off from members of the public that some of the goods are being sold at Lundi Business Centre they raided the place leading to the recovery of over 7000 liters of diesel, 40 litres ethanol, 440 litres sunlight dishwashing liquid, 100kg washing powder, 80 litres engine oil, vehicle rims amongst other items.

“We encourage the members of the public to continue giving the police such positive information so that they carry out fruitful investigations as we did on this case,” said Dhewa.

He went on to warn those who are living on proceeds of crime that crime does not pay and the long arm of the law will always catch up with them one day.
